According to Scripps, Free TV once again is relevant and vibrant in the self-bundling era. What is old is new again. Household penetration for antennas has been growing with nearly 1 in 3 homes having one, up from 26% in 2019. They predict 50 million over-the-air viewers by 2025.

Where advertisers spend their dollars speaks volumes. Broadcast TV spending is up 19% year-over-year while cable ad spending is down 3%. The overall advertising market across all media was up 19%; so broadcast TV is holding its own.

Broadcast TV viewing is moving away from traditional cable TV over to streaming and over-the-air distribution. People still want to watch their local stations no matter how they are delivered to them! Overall TV usage was up 8% last month, while broadcast consumption was up 9%.

Leisure time in America is growing. While TV viewership is more than ever, its share of leisure time is shrinking, because online gaming grew from 11% of leisure activities to 16%! No wonder Netflix is getting into gaming.
